I
noticed that I had never thought about anyone else, including myself, the way
Johari windows tells us to do. I learned that I was limited within what I know and you
know. I never thought that there were many things of someone that I did not know
of. Furthermore, I only know that the
hidden things are God's; we do not need to know, but now what I reflected is that
I can know more than I expected about others and of God himself if I raise good questions and am curious genuinely, while what is revealed is for us to know. Then I was
thinking of only. While learning about the
Johari tools drew my attention and raised what the Johari tools are. I watched
carefully, and it made a difference to my
views about my life and others.
It helped me to be patient and comfortable in silence. Back then, I used to walk away
if there was nothing to talk and listen to. because I thought that it was not necessary to stay without silence. The
more I used to be silent with people, it would always make me uncomfortable, but now I have learned and started thinking
that there is more I do know of so I can stay and be patient and feel
comfortable.
People
used to ask me questions, like, 'Is there
anything you want to let me know?' after having one and a half hours of good conservation. I used to wander to ask why he or she was
asking such a question, or I simply used to say no and walk away. But now, I know
that raising such a question helped to understand what is below the surface. I get surprised to learn such insight. I have responded to my client with the same question: Is there anything I don't know about you, and do you want to let me
know? It helped me to be more effective in my personal and professional life.
While having my first Zoom call in week 2, I was surprised when one of my colleagues raised a question, saying that he is
familiar with biblical counselling, including Jay Adams and John MacArthur. I was curious about that as well, but Professor Brandon made things clear. It was crystal clear for me. I am new to the counselling field and have recently
been engaging in the counselling field. I
have searched and found more biblical counselling based on Christian faith. Then, I was wondering how I
am growing. At that time Professor told us that the integration of special
revelation and general revelation in the counselling made me more confident in
my counselling career, and I am looking forward to learning more about it.
I
was confused among the terms like 'psychologist', 'psychiatrist' and 'counsellor' while working in an
organisation. I still remembered that I asked one of my colleagues. He said that a psychiatrist is superior to a psychologist. I said, 'Oh, okay.' I was not confident enough to say anything about it if somebody asked. But not the optional video I watched made me
clearer and made me able to share with my siblings as well. I am feeling like I am
growing in this field and being effective as a person. Another thing is that I just remembered that in my workplace people are arguing, and can psychologists prescribe the medicine? Some say yes, while
others say no. As a conclusion, they both agree that psychologists don't prescribe. Watching the video reminded
me of these things and helped me to be clearer on these terms.
In
our culture, I have seen that people do not talk about their past. If we raise their past, that means their
relationship is not good. People think that the past is past and never comes back
to the present life, so let your past not bother you. But here, in the counselling field, I am told to listen to their past
and raise the question that may help your client to open up their history, which
surprised me. I do agree that we think that we left our past behind, but we
actually have been carrying our past to the present that needs to be addressed to get transformation completely.
Overall,
the course is equipping me and reducing my confusion and making me more
effective in my counselling field. Furthermore, it has raised my curiosity
to learn new thing of as well as built
the compassion for the people more.
